Intraoral Scanner

An intraoral scanner is a tool we use to get a closer look at different parts of your smile. The intraoral scanner is a small, pen-shaped tool that we can use to take color, high quality photos of your teeth and gums, as well as other structures in your mouth as needed. Because the intraoral scanner is relatively small and is easy to maneuver, we can use it to see angles in your mouth that we cannot easily view with the unaided eye. When you visit our office, we may utilize the intraoral camera to better evaluate your oral health and to diagnose dental problems like tooth decay and periodontal disease, as well as tooth damage like a cracked or chipped tooth. The intraoral scanner is also useful in consultations for Invisalign and crown treatment, as well as following up after treatment has been completed.

Digital X-Ray

Digital X-rays, also known as dental radiographs, use controlled pulses of radiation to create images of the internal structures of the jaw and mouth. There are many advantages to using digital X-rays but the most astonishing is that digital X-rays have 90% less radiation than conventional X-rays and provide better image quality.

Radiographic imaging is an essential part of diagnosis, documentation, and treatment planning here at True Love Dental. Digital X-rays are useful in viewing jawbones and various tooth structures, as well as find cavities, bone or gum loss, periodontal disease, benign or malignant tumors, and other normal or abnormal structures within the lower portion of the head. In children and adolescents, they are also useful for finding un-erupted permanent teeth and imaging root structures.

The panoramic X-ray is a two-dimensional (2-D) dental X-ray examination that is commonly performed by dentists and oral surgeons in everyday practice and is not only easy to perform, but also fast and painless. At True Love Dental we use the panoramic X-ray in order to plan personalized treatment for dentures, extractions, and implants, as well as routine check-ups.

A panoramic X-ray examination requires no special preparation, and women should always inform our dentists at our office if there is any possibility that they are pregnant.

Computed Tomography (CT)

Dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) is a special type of x-Ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-Rays are not sufficient. This type of CT scanner uses a special type of technology to generate three dimensional (3-D) images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths, and bone in the craniofacial region in a single scan. At True Love Dental the images obtained through these CT scans allow for our professionals to deliver more precise treatment planning.

At True Love Dental we use the dental cone beam CT for surgical planning for impacted teeth, diagnosing temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), accurate placement of dental implants, evaluation of the jaw, sinuses, nerve canals and nasal cavity, determining bone structure and tooth orientation, and locating the origin of pain or pathology.

A CT scan can typically take between 20 to 40 seconds for a complete volume, also called a full mouth x-Ray, in which the entire mouth and dental structures are imaged, and less than 10 seconds for a regional scan that focuses on a specific area of the maxilla or mandible. When getting a CT scan at True Love Dental you will not experience any pain, and you will be able to return to your normal activities once the exam is complete.
